Took my car to local service station and they quoted me a total price of $358 for parts and labor. Sounds kind of outrageous. Can anyone else tell me how much it cost to have this job done?
Just for 1 wheel- front, right.

$360 is on the high side, but not totally unreasonable. This is a job that requires some special tools etc. but can be done at home for about $85 including the services of a machine shop. Check if the shop have done this repair before on a tour before giving the job to them and check out the price at a dealer for comparison. There is a recent horror story post about a guy that went to Midas for this job and they destroyed the front end of his car because they didn't know what they were doing.

can be done for the cost of the bearing if you do everything yourself, that should be around $50 or so

Same here. However, there's one catch: that price is to replace the bearing itself only. If the hub has to be replaced, the original price sounds more reasonable. It may also be that they're trying to replace the hub when its not necessary. If you can't (or don't want) to do the repair yourself, get a second opinion; it may cut the cost by more than half.

The sealed ball bearing, as mentioned is under $50. The hub if pressed out properly, and not mangled, should be reusable, theres nothing to wear out on these. The machine shop service to press everything out and back in properly typically runs about $40.

I will call and find out. Had to drop my car off and they are working on it. I have IL plates, working in DC. Just don't want to feel like I am being taken for a ride, thinking that I might be gone in a few months by the service guys.

Called back and asked exactly what they were doing. They replaced only the bearing but the $358 included the price of doing a 4 wheel alignment.
Is a wheel alignment required when doing a bearing replacement?
Called the L-M dealer. Bearing costs $48.97, $150 for labor. Will call the service station and complain. Thanks everyone for your help.
The service manager explained that he had to press the hub to get the bearing out and press it back in, so additional labor charges. I'm not too happy about this, but oh well. Might as well just take it to a dealer next time.

I did my wheel bearings for 32 dollars each. I made a 30 ton press from I beams. The only other cost was for a 30 ton bottle jack for 20 dollars. You can try harbor freight, they got a 6 ton press for 70 dollars. As for the wheel alignment, it is not required because according to the ford service manual, the caster and camber is not adjustable. When you remove the strut from the knucle, there is no adjustments between the strut and the knuckle. As long as you do not touch the adjustments of you tie rod you will be fine without a wheel alignmnet.
