I got a 1997 Contour gl 4 cyl with 135000 miles. When traveling about 40 mph and higher when I let off the throttle there is a rumble noise. If I take it out of overdrive the noise gets much louder. When I go over slight bumps the rumble changes pitch. The sound appears to be comming from the drivers side.
I already changed the left cv halfshaft, left wheel bearing, replaced tires, and replaced the timing belt. Could it be and engine problem or a tranny/torque converter problem.
Your help is much appreciated...

Welcome onboard.

Probably a long shot, but easy to check. Turn wheels full lock and check via wheel well that atx is not resting on subframe indicating faulty rear transmission mount.
