While cleaning my UIM and LIM on the weekend I got to thinking (had lots of time while scrubbing). Is it possible to acid dip the UIM and LIM at a local machine shop instead of spending so much time cleaning the UIM and LIM. I would expect the acid dip would perform better at removing carbon junk. Let me know if this is a good idea or bad idea... I would hate to burn a hole in the manifold .

Depending on the solution, it could attack the bronze bushings for the secondary shafts and possibly eat the powder coat off of the UIM. Haven't actually tried this so I don't know for sure. Berrymans and a bottle brush seems to work pretty well...

Don't do it! Aluminum has poor resistance to acid attack and the gasket surface in particular will probably be badly pitted and require resurfacing.
Ditto caustic cleaning.
