Well, after talking to my dealership about my recent tranny problems... they suggest I get a new one.

Now, currently I have the evil atx. But I was wondering if anyone locally has looked into what would be involved in doing the swap to mtx, and the approx. price to do such a job. I've also been looking at maybe purchasing a cheap V6 mtx, and selling the spree. But I haven't had much luck finding a cheap (less than 4 grand) car, in good condition.

comments/suggestions?

Sell and buy a new car. That really is the best option when it comes to switching the trannies. The cost is outrageous to do a swap given the work involved.

I would have to agree... because you have switch more than just trannies... wouldn't have you have to change out engines as well as all the computer/sensor stuff?

I would think you have to do that because all the computer timing and sensors are there for a ATX...I would think these sensors and the pcm would be watching rpms, speed..blah blah blah... I would think it would be more labour intensive doing a tranny convert than say an engine swap.

Just my uneducated guess.....

Talked to the Ford Dealership I work at, they said they would do the install for either the ATX or the MTX and it would be the same price, labour-wise... about $500 (employee price)... so really it's just the cost of parts... $2000 for the ATX tranny, but $1900 for the MTX $500 for new computer, etc.... So It looks like if anything I'll just put in another atx for about $2500.

thanx for replying.

If you can get it at that price I'd go for it. Wow. Seems to good to be true.

I doubt they'll actually do it. I think the Service Advisor will retract and say no once he talks to a mechanic. I'd lay money on it....

well, today I had to put another $260 into the car. The Waterpump went for a third time (one month pass the 1 year warantee). I think I'll drive the car until the tranny fails, Then get the the atx replaced for a reman'ed one. After all I don't have $2500 just laying around.
