Sorry in advance if this is a bit difficult / obscure to answer. Have tried a search.

So i'm in Australia with a 2000 Mondeo (imported from Europe to Aust). and i'm starting to get a bit worried about the notorious water pump as i've got 45000km on board and i just had the cooling system flushed etc at service the other day (standard 45km service)

I recall reading that the later (?) versions had a better (?metal) impeller or something.

I ask b/c i'll look at replacing if needed, but over here will cost $$$$$ (1 aussie = about 2c US lol)

Does anyone know if this is correct? I guess those members based in the UK may know the answer to this, but there's enough knowledgeable people on the boards that someone US may know.

nope m8, none of the european spec mk2's had metal wps
the latter ones did however have a revised abs impeller but still not as safe as a metal impeller imho
most of the metal water pumps that the M.E.G did in a group buy were made in Japan by a company called Firstline GMB
i paid £43 for mine all in which is a fair bit cheaper than the std ford price

Still have 2.5 years on extended warranty, so will hang on for a while till i can get the part from o/s.


Annoying, but i can stop worrying about it and wait and see. Should have plenty more km's until i get a prob anyway.
