As a former Contour owner I began pondering this at 1:30 am laying in bed. What setup should you use? What has worked? What hasn't. Lets review, We have Turbo 3L and 2.5L putting down great numbers on the dyno, but not reflected on the track. Why? Traction I would say is the main issue. Wouldn't you agree? Secondly reliability has been a big issue as well. Well here is what I came up with. A bullet proof, n/a zetec. No forced induction.. why? Traction... too much torque. A high reving, zetec with an extremely aggressive cam for high end power (would suck at idle), high compression pistons and aggressive porting. Secondly, gearing on the zetec mtx 75 seems more suited for the drag strip. Have Terry H. do his magic on it and you are ready to go. Now I got idea's, just no technical know-how. ( I work with turbo cars, a little little on my rsx)

Lastly, it would have to be on a diet, stripped out. Light as possible. What do you guys think? Am I totally off target? Do we even care?

i'd also get a widebody kit to fit some 265+ slicks on the front, and put the stiffest springs possible in the rear

Sounds Gouda! Get a junker do the above mentioned, and it would cost, IMHO, cheeper than an SVT yet quicker, oh and just throw on a Wide Body or SVT kit. I think it sounds realistic for some of us here. (Not me) But looking back, at the amount some have spent, maybe could've *cough*easily*cough* done this. And you'd have handling too boot. Good idea

Also I forgot, you would need limited slip diff to go with it. Should help hooking up, and yes drag slicks of course.
I think this could be done for under 8k including the car.
Hrmmm, maybe I should sell the Daytona Shelby...nahhhh

I don't know if N/A would be the way to go... Maybe not a S/C or T/C but maybe a 75 or 100 shot in 2nd or 3rd gear would help a lot... Assuming that you have a tight enough suspension and some slicks on it, I don't see any reason why you couldn't hit the nitrous in 2nd gear, if not possibly in first... But I wouldn't be starting with the Zetec motor personally...

This has been gone over so many times and again: zetec fully built with turbo pushing 500hp+, lots of lightening, and huge drag slicks with possibility of fabrication to fit a lentech built focus atx.

Fastest drag cars made aren't 1 or 2 speed trannies w/o a reason. Turbo Tom is putting an atx in his white focus, so I'm pretty sure there's good reason for it. I think once you get a certain amount of power, a properly built atx becomes much more helpful than a mtx.

I'm pretty sure atx is used to consistancy, not because they are faster.
