For the past couple weeks my car has been starting funny. First I started noticing my spedometer (yes, where it shows your speed) was jumping up whenever I start the car. It got a little worse over time. Then the two days ago it started very wierdly. It would start like half-way, then like cut-out, then start again. Then the next day it wouldnt start. Whenever I turn the key, I hear a loud and rapid clicking/ticking noise. The even more wierd thing about it is that my windshield wipers start moving up and down when I try and start the car. When I jump the car from another car or from a jumper pack, it will start. I want to say the battery is low, but what the hell is with the ticking and the wipers? A friend of mine told me it is the starter, but I figured I should ask some people that would know for sure. Could it be bad wiring, the starter and/or battery? Help would be greatly appreciated, I need this car to go to work tomorrow and I dont want to end up killing the starter completely by forcing it through a jump every single time I start.
Sounds like the battery to me. A dead battery can cause all sorts of strange things to happen, I've had similar things happen to me. It should go away once you get a fresh battery in there.
I had alternator problems in the past, it was replaced once early this year, and i think it was replaced one other time too when it wasnt mine. But about that im really not sure. Im going to try and charge my battery today and see if it can hold a charge (even though the car was on for a good 8 hours yesterday with no improvements). I really dont want to spend 50 bucks on a new battery only to find out that it wasnt the battery. If the battery dont hold the charge in the next 2 1/2 hours, then ill go and buy one and let you guys know on whats going on.
