Friend of mine sold his SVT and cleaned out his garage into my new (to me) 1996 Mystique GS 4cyl. Zetec. He gave me his original SVT rear sway bar. It's noticeably thicker than my stock one.
Question: Will installing it cause oversteer if I don't make any other changes? Should I even bother in the 1st place?
I'm not planning to auto-x it or anything like that (I use my CRX Si for that!) and I'm pleased with the car's balance and handling the way it is. The car is just a grocery-getter

It'll just balance it out better, you gotta go really big to get oversteer.

Install it. If you know how to drive your car hard, and do so frequently, you will love it.
Don't fear the oversteer. As mentioned before, on an otherwise stock suspension, you have to put a lot more roll stiffness than an SVT bar to have serious oversteer problems.

Thanks for the advice. I'm not one to look a gift horse (or sway bar) in the mouth!

I thought I'd give you an update on the sway bar. I had it installed at the same time I had the RR coil and strut replaced.
Verdict: not a huge difference but noticeable. Wheels feel better tied together (duh!) and somewhat snappier turn-in on quick corners.
I'm pleased. And the price was right!

SVT also has a smaller front bar, and softer front springs, to induce what little oversteerability it has, and even with that, SVT guys run much stiffer aftermarket rear bars without any bad or unpredictable behavior.
So, yes, you will be safe, while controlling body roll a bit better.
