My posts are few and far between, but I thought I'd see if I can get some helpful info from you good folks.

Need some 16" rims and snows for my SVT Slocus, and am thinking about ordering from The Tire Rack.

Just wanted to know if anyone on this board has dealt with them (good or not-so-good service) and, my BIG question is if anyone knows if you have to pay the feds DUTY on the rims & tires that are shipped in from the USA.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Ray

I just had to order some hub rings from them for my OZ's since there is no Canadain distributor for OZ in Canada. They have great service, but they only ship via UPS and UPS ass rapes you coming across the border. Put it this way...on a $27.00 USD order incl shipping I paid $21 CAD in taxes and brokerage (~$17 was brokerage) My advice is find a local shop unless there is a set of rims or rubber that only tire rack has that you must have

I have purchased from the Tire Rack in the past. I did, however, have the tires shipped to a friend's place in Rochester, NY, where I picked them up and transported them back into Canada. Since the tires I bought (Goodrich KDW) were manufactured in the US, there was no duty charged. PST and GST was applied at the border. I suppose I could have avoided PST/GST if I had mounted the tires in the US, but I would have been bringing my winter tires back into Canada, which may have raised a bit of suspicion.

If the wheels/tires you are interested in are made outside of NAFTA countries, there will be some duty to pay. If you order from Canada, expect to pay PST/GST, possibly some duty, and a brokerage fee. The Tire Rack processed and delivered my order in a very expedient manner, and at a great price.

I ordered my Kosei K-1 wheels and Kumho Victoracers from them..... but I had them shipped to Gingerman Raceway since I was at the SVT EXperience at the time. So when I crossed the border with an extra set of wheels on my car hauler they had no questions seeing as how the tires look quite used.

Their service was great including shipping from two different locations to ensure that I could get the last four Kosei K-1 s they had.

When I ordered my Nitto NT555s from Discount Tire I had them shipped to Buffalo and I drove down and picked them up. I paid GST / PST only and they did not ask what country they were manufactured in.
Have the wheels and tires shipped to a UPS depot on the other side of the border and pick them up. On high value shipments it is worth the drive in order to save the money. I usually have my USA stuff shipped hold for pick up at the UPS terminal in Buffalo.

Cheers

Fern

I might have a deal in the works with an Ottawa area CEGer for some rims, though might need tires.

What kind of tires, and what price range is OFOC looking at?

BTW, thanks for everyone's replies. If I can't make a deal on rims in Ottawa, I might try the "ship to the border" trick to save on costs.
