Has anyone installed either a quaife or torsen by themselves? If so, how much time did it take you? Any special tools? Mechanical skill level required to do it?

No. We source it to a professional due to the pressed bearings.

One could just have the bearings pressed by a mechanic and do the rest his/herself, no?

It wouldn't be that hard to do, I don't think. But probably would require some experience in making sure the shimming was correct. To be fair, I've not put one in the MTX75 myself, so I'm not 100% sure. But with other Ford transaxles I've had apart that were of that basic configuration, it was simply a matter of removing the bellhousing half of the transaxle case and then lifting the diff out. No further disassembly was required. IIRC, from what I understand, the MTX-75 shouldn't be much different. Can anyone varify that?

I assisted in the process but can't claim credit. The torsen just dropped right in. I didn't need any shims. I also kept my stock speedo gear. The hard part was getting all the other stuff back in and closing the case. I remember he had an especially hard time with reverse.

How many hours labor for a decent transmission mechanic if the trans has already been dropped?

From a local trans shop, I was quotes 1.5-3 hrs for a quaife. He said it shouldn't be more than 2, but he has to over quote me.

I decided to get it done by someone else in the end anyway.
