I recently purchased a new set of Bosch Platinum plugs for my '98 GL to replace the Motorcraft Platinum already in my engine. The problem is that I can't get them to thread. Autozone verified that I was given the correct part # (#4205). I spoke w/ a guy with SP Motorsports that told me I needed the Bosch Platinum +4's (#4458) and that I was given the wrong ones. I was able to remove and re-install the old ones easily. Is the problem with the threads or do I have the wrong plugs? Are the +4's really worth $5 ea.? Aron

Duratec engines require double platinum plugs, so stick with Motorcraft or Autolite plugs. The Bosch +4's are very hit-or-miss, and many people have reported problems after switching. The Autolite part number is APP764; I paid $3.99 each at Checker Auto (or Kragen or Schucks or Advance or CSK... all the same thing).

For several months now I have been using Bosch paltinum plugs. Regular stuff, not 4+. So far no problems. I will keep an eye on them for the following months just to be on the safe side. NGK's are really expensive here (like 65$ for a set of six) and hard to come buy. We have Ford dealership coming to Sarajevo this fall so maybe I can get some Motorcraft (I gues I can order it too but I am being lazy) just to be sure. I firmly believe in OEM for a non-moded engine. If one does the mods, well everything is a fair game then.

I have been using the same Bosch +4s for the past 52,000 miles. Took them out for inspection a few weeks age and they still look very good. Engine performance is still very good as well as mileage. I will certainly consider another set come change time!

i run the autolite plats, but on my old probe i ran NGK for its whole life, ran like a champ. never had problems with either. from what i understand, NGK's are mainly for imports. <----new?
