Taken from another site: Quote:
The first 1.35 million claim forms went out today to elligble California residents as part of a class action settlement between Microsoft and the attorneys for CA consumers over claims of consumer overcharge and illegal combination. There is up to $1.1 billion in vouchers available to any California consumer. CA residents can go here: www.microsoftcalsettlement.com to get a claim form or have one mailed to their residence. IMPORTANT NOTE: you can make up to five (5) claims totalling up to but not more than $100 with absolutely ZERO proof or documentation. Just fill in the spaces on the short form with the info for your five claims. Additionally, you can make a claim for any and every MS product you have purchased (directly or indirectly) for which you have some proof.
Values and timelines and other vital info is available on the site listed in this post. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THIS OPPORTUNITY.

From FAQ's:
Quote:
Q: What benefits are available under the settlement?
A: You will receive vouchers redeemable for cash after the purchase of a wide variety of software and computer hardware products. The vouchers are worth: $16 for each Microsoft Windows or MS-DOS license claimed; $29 for each Microsoft Office license claimed; $5 for each Microsoft Word, Home Essentials or Works Suite license claimed; and $26 for each Microsoft Excel license claimed.
What the site does NOT say is where the vouchers can be used. I bet the vouchers can only be "redeemed" at a specific vendor (the ones actually offering the voucher in the first place) and the the list price at this vendor is more than what a Staples or Office Max would charge so with the voucher applied you are still overpaying.
This just smells of scam big time.
