My initial turbo kit for my Zetec cost $800 using salvage yard parts. It can be done for around $1k even with an intercooler, but it won't be the best intercooler you can get. A FMIC has been done on a cougar V6, at least as a test fit. The piping is tight, but it can be squeased in there. A fifth injector and 5psi would get you an easy 200whp. More than 200whp would cost your another $1-2k.

Now a do-it-yourself setup is only doable, affordibly, if you can weld or know someone who can weld who will do the work for free. You're biggest problem is the ATX and that it's a V6. It might be to tight in the engine bay to fit everything you need.

just get a leaf blower, silicone hose, a power inverter to plug into your cigarette lighter, and an extension cord, then fabricate a switch and an air bypass for when it's not running....have fun...and you wont be spending much money....i did it to a neon....it was flippin hilarious....

I looked into electric forced induction and the power drain issue the main problem. Constant consumption to maintain a spinning blower isn't good is you don't need the power.

I'm going to install a homemade nitro induction kit before I go to college. It is better because there is only power when you need it.

Even without Nitrous I can just pump 100+ psi of air at the push of a button through the system. Even if you can turn off the blower it should put less strain on the air intake flow because all it is is a little nozzle vs. a fan (when it is not activated)

Keep up with your plan, even if it doesn't get you all the HP you want it sounds like a genuinely fun project to be working on. Hell, if it works, count me as signed up for wanting one
