but unfortunately not home for a long time. They told us we will be in Iraq until at least March. But the wife tells me my computer is finally on the way. It was delayed because they were updating the model. Some specs:

P 4 2.6 GHz on 800 MHz system bus
512 Mb PC3200 DDR Dual Channel
2 5400 RPM 60 Gb drives set up in RAID 0
ATI 9600 Pro graphics with a dedicated 128 Mb SDRAM

The model is the 8890c and you can find it at www.sagernotebook.com. It includes a removeable MP3 player and a tv tuner w/ remote. This laptop has more features than any I have ever seen. But the most important part is that I have a wireless card and will be able to email the wife every day when it gets here. I', hoping for a 3 week delivery time. Hope to be chatting with you all again soon!

So how does the wireless work over there. Go to a military server? How far away can you be?

Sandman, you might be interested to know that President Bush is evidently keeping score on the war on terror. He was interviewed for a piece about 9/11 by 60 Minutes II and when asked about keeping a tally he responded coyly:
Quote:

"I have a classified document that might have some pictures on there, just to keep reminding me about whoâ??s out there, where they might be."

Reporter: And as the terrorists are captures or killed?

"I might make a little check there, yeah."

The access point is a Linksys WRT54G, with some kind of booster attached. My wireless card is a Linksys WPC55AG, and I am about 500 feet from the AP. This is about as far away as I can get and still get a signal. Internet speeds are about equal to my stateside dial-up, which is already fast for a dial-up (AT&T Worldnet). Speeds would be faster, but all traffic is going over sat., including DSN telephone service, so they have the internet bandwidth capped pretty low.

I heard something on the news last week about Uncy Sam keeping MP's a while longer in Iraq, and maybe even extending their active duty out to two years. Too high of a demand for you guys, not enough of ya. Let us know if you need anything...

Careful now, that would be relying on someone from Alabama and we all know what Northerners think of folks down south!
