I have read quite a few posts about all sorts of the MTX-75's problems (before and after you {TH} replied to my situation last week).
Background on my SVT tranny:
- Cocktail at 10kmiles
- Tranny has always been tough to change gears
- Frequently (once a day or more) grinds gears when shifting (usually upshifting)
- When left in neutral overnight, impossible to put into first until engine warms up (cold mornings) - leaving it in first overnight solves this as there is no need to shift to get moving; sencond wasn't really a problem
The shifter just went out while upshifting (not going fast or accelerating quick at all). The shifter could not engage any gear. The mechanic described it best: he just wound his hand in a circle (like a wax-on, wax-off circle) meaning that there were no gates or hinderances to moving the shifter at all. The car is now at the Ford dealer; they told me that the tranny had "disentirgated" and they had "ordered" me a new part. I found out (a week later) that the part (tranny unit) wasn't avaliable and they asked me to have it rebuilt. Having read all the horror stories about MTX-75 rebuilds, I was extremely hesitant.
I am wondering if I can get the double-mass damper and/or the Quaife LSD (wasn't this OEM on the Mondeo ST220?) installed while the tranny is getting put in. I guess what I am asking is "will they install it for me if I pay for it?". Also, can I get them to put in the cocktail solution?
BTW, Terry (Haines), what would you charge ballpark for a bulldog MTX-75 (OEM ratios) for an SVT + a Quaife? I would be looking for something to last the remainder of the car's life and I assume I will have to get a new tranny when the next one fails 31k miles from now.
Thx all
