I have posted this issue a couple times before with no response and the posting of a couple days ago got no response. Is this an SE only problem that no one has solved? Are there only two cars with this issue?

On hot days when I restart my car it makes a resonating whine until I am under way and then it stops. This sound is often followed by a rough idle. Interestingly, if the car dies it often doesn't make the noise again on restart.

Here's the previous posting:

Whenever I drive my car in excess of 20-30 minutes, turn it off for say 10-15 minutes, and then start it up again (like running to the grocery store for something) my engine can't seem to maintain a constant idle, constantly revving up and down. In addition, I think I hear what might be close to the infamous moose sound, but I don't think that's the culprit.
The problem of course is worse during the summer than winter.
I know it's gotta be heat related, I'm just not sure where to look. The temp gage on the dash never really goes over halfway during these times.

I appreicate anyone's help.

I have had the EXACT same issue for the past few years. I live in MN so it only occurs on summer days that are over 80 degrees (not too many). I am planning on trying to replace my fuel filter (bad boy - 70K and I have not replaced it yet). I would like to hear from those who have fixed this issue.

Sounds like the moose (V6 only problem) to me, except it usually gets people when the weather turns cold. Even so, it could likely be a bad IAC. Would explain the resonance and the rough idle (IAC can't control the air going into the engine properly).

You can:
1) clean/replace the IAC
2) do the TH fix

Probably #1 if the IAC is shot would be the only way to go.

I had this problem for a while and I took my car to the dealer and they had to reprogram it. If you have ever removed the battery cable for any reason your programming is off, unless you followed the reprogram procedure in the manual or taken it in for reprogramming. the latter being the easy way out.

I have the same exact issue 95se Duratech, but when mine acts up it will not idle at all, just have to keep letting it die until it decides to start and run fine... was thinking it may be vapor lock but not sure...just changed fuel filters so I know that is not the problem..any other help???

davefrbburb, the computer relearns by itself after the battery is disconnected. Hopefully, the shop did more for you than "program" your car which consists of idling your car for 5 minutes after disconnecting the battery.

I had this problem with my Zetec, it turned out to be bad fuel injectors for me. It seemed to be heat related for me too, if it was cool out it wouldn't do it as much, but if it was warm it would do it all the time. I can't say if the injectors are your problem, but it's a posabillity.
It was funny at drive ups, because the people at the other end of the mic. thought I was reving the engine laugh .

I was looking around in the engine bay the other day and found a really badly dry rotted(cracked) hose. It is L shaped and runs from the throttle body to near the penlum that houses the fuel rail. I'm going to replace it this weekend and see if that makes a difference will post results!!

Check your air filter...I finally got my car to do it when a mechanic was around and found that the air filter was dirty and the car was trying to suck air from in around the air box and that was making the whining noise and choking the engine that's why it wouldn't run when it acted up!! Hope this helps...it's a cheap easy fix..and it probably needs done anyway...but it fixed mine!!

I always turn my a\c off a couple miles before my destination, so my a\c is not on during start up!!
