I have a 95 Contour that started rattling in the front of the engine.I pulled the serpentine belt and noticed the air conditioner compressor is locked up.I can't afford a new compressor.I thought maybe I could just remove the compressor and buy a shorter belt but the parts man says I have to change the bracket that holds the compressor and install a pulley where the compressor is now.Can someone give me the low down on this? Thanks.

I thought you could just buy a belt w/o AC
and bypass the compresser?

He could be right though, you better look at
the 2 belts and view the charts.

that happened to me, I simply replaced the parts necessary to get it fixed (although one still has to be re-replaced...ugh...)
one option I had when looking at the problem was to just get a shorter belt and don't go around the compressor, but I just hope you don't live somewhere hot

You can absolutly bypass the compressor if its a v6. I just did. The routing diagram for both was on the right front shock tower of my 95.

The non AC belt is 62.0" long, and the Dayco part number is 5060620. I've gotten dayco from Napa and Checker/Shucks/Kragen.

No idea what to do on zetec.

No extra pulley req'd. Just buy & install the non a/c belt, bypassing a/c compressor pulley.
Applicable to both engine types.
