Contour Enthusiasts Group Archives Forums General Troubleshooting Perking Sound at Fuel Filler

I hear a sound near the passenger side rear that sounds like a perking coffee pot. I hear it at idle only and must be near the Fuel Door to hear it. I took the Fuel Cap off but the sound continued. Vehicle is running fine. Could it be a return from the fuel pump? Before any trolls ask, there is no puddle under the car.

I'm going out on a limb here but I'm pretty sure that's a normal sound for Contours to make. Mine does it - always has. I think I remember waaayy back someone mentioning something about and that is was nothing to worry about.

Can someone validate this?

I get a similar sound only at startup and only occasionally. Sounds like the fuel pump chirping.
