I turned the "Loud" setting off on my deck (kenwood mpv-619), I set the "V-Off" to about -2 or -3. Plus, I am running bass blockers on both the front and rear set of speakers. I think you get better sound this way (better bass too).
You will actually get higher distortion levels because you are compounding the distortion from the deck with the relatively high levels in the factory amp. I trust that you like the sound better, but based on every (100% until yours) review I have ever seen, bypassing the factory amp results in better sound.

Listening to speakers in a constructed sound display unit versus listening to the same speakers in your vehicle will not yield the same results.
You have deflections, cancellations, interior conflicts, absorption, etc. to deal with in a car environment that you may not experience in a controlled sound room. I'm sure the speakers you were listening to where closer to ear level as well. Were they on axis? More than likely the speakers were installed in enclosures as well.
The same situation applies to consumers that listen to home audio in a controlled listening room and love what they here until they bring the same package home and realize it doesn't sound the same in their home. It's a matter of fact.
Your head unit is not putting out 45 watts R.M.S. If you're looking for that kind of power output, get yourself an amplifier. You won't be disappointed.

Did you just say you prefer the factory amp? I need your address so I can go over there and beat you with a mallet

LOL. It is just something to get me by until I can buy an amp. And yes, you are correct in saying the distortion levels would be higher when I run my deck to the factory amp.....I just like the fuller sound it gives me. Which, by the way......what would you recomend as far as a 4-channel amp goes to power 6.5" speakers (in the front) and 6x8" (in the back)? I don't want to spend a ton of cash, but don't want crap either.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I have a hard time paying above cost on electronics after working at Best Buy for 3 years. I got everything at cost and when you are talking about car audio equipment, you can expect to save about 50% off the retail price tag.
