Hi everyone..
I came across a box of baseball cards that I used to collect in the 80's. The box is fairly large and about 2/3's full.. looks like a lot of commons from the time but who knows whats in there.
Anyone here collect? I would like to sort them.. keep some of the good collectable ones and then sell the rest off for mod money.
Any tips for me on this subject?
Thanks!

hehe - just kidding - missed ya at the meet...

Your best bet for profit is to get a book (can't remember the name of it) that lists the values of cards then seperate them byt he ones that are worth a decent chunk. You can send them off of take them to numerous sports memorabilia places that will certify the condition of the card (mint, good etc) then sell em on ebay. Certified cards go for a LOT more than ones you just take a pic of and post on ebay. Go on ebay and check out baseball cards and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks freakshow.. didnt know that if they were certified they would be worth more. I think the name of the book is Beckett.. yeah.. that is it. Dont really want to do the ebay thing so I may wait for a card show or something and then just wander and sell that way.

Toadster.. heard the meet was good. Glad you all had fun.

First grab yourself a Beckett price guide. They're pretty much the standard in the industry. Second, cards are professionally graded today so if you want to get primo bucks for your cards you may want to look into that. It's pretty pricey, but it will make a mint card worth like 10x more. The sports card market today is full of sharks man. It's really hard to get a fair deal for cards unless you have some really rare stuff to put out there. Everyone nowadays knows to keep the good cards so there is a glut on the market keeping the prices down. Hopefully you have some good stuff and will get some decent money for them.

Sign up at beckett.com for one months service, which costs like 4 dollars (the price of a new beckett), but you can look up every single baseball card you have and keep track of your collection's value. I did it recently and stumble on a pair of Cal Ripken Jr. rookie cards worth about 80 bucks a piece. I also found a Ken Griffy Jr. rookie card worth about 50 bucks. I bought about 15,000 baseball cards when I was younger and now the whole collection is probably worth close to $10,000.

Gives me something to retire on.

I got a beckett catalog. My most expensive card is one I traded a basically worthless holographic braves card for. The rest of them are worth no more than a few cents to $1 each.

I've got a whole box of football cards that I collected at about 14, some of which are 20 year old rookie cards of now-retired superstars. I'm curious to know what they're worth, but there's no way I'm selling them now

Does any one know about what a Complete Donruss set from 1991 is worth? It is all there. All cards are mint, and in protective sleeves.
