Does anyone have a 1995 Contour/Mystique with the Duractec V6, and NOT had a "check engine" light issue? I know the 95's had the OBD 1 diagnostics, and the O2 sensors and EGR ports are particular causes. My daughter's 95 Mystique with 58K is going back in the shop tomorrow for CEL diagnostics. Had both O2 sensors replaced three weeks ago, and thought that solved it...and it did for a while, but that little orange light is back again. Comes on after a few miles, sometimes stays on, some times goes off, comes back...you know the routine. My wife's 95 Contour went through a similar episode between 55K and 70K. But like the Terminator...it will probably BE BACK!

I have the same issue. I don't even pay attention to it any more.

I used to get upset at the CEL, but now I just think of it as a friendly reminder that I am almost to L.A.

I had this happen to me when I picked the car up from the dealer after they installed the new engine. It was some carbon buildup somewhere on one of the old parts still in there that triggered the CEL (can't recall where the buildup was). Never had a CEL again after the mechanic took the time to fix it (on the spot, no hassle, this is a Ford dealership...hmm. too bad they're 50 miles away. If anyone's in the area, Huff Ford in Wytheville, Va has my highest recommendation)

My '95 was showing CEL for about a month after I got it. A dealer checkover while it was in for unrelated recall work found an air hose had a split in it that was opening under some certain conditions, and causing problems. Once that was replaced (as well as an earlier decarboning and... frown something else), the CEL went away and has almost never come back (once or twice in 6 months' time, clicked off on its own after about 3 minutes).

You can get an OBD1 diagnostic tool for about $20 at Wal-Mart or some auto stores. I got mine when I was seeing the CEL come on, and even if I wasn't the one to fix it, at least I was informed as to what it was and so forth.

On the 95's you can get the codes with just a multimeter. Use the jumper trick to get the codes.

To find more information on this, search the forums, or PM me, and I'll give more details. This has been posted many times before, but I don't mind telling you either.
