Hello everybody i need some info on what is the best tire size to run? i am thinking about getting some 17" rims for my car. Right now a have 14" on it it is a contour gl. what ones will not have a rubing problem? and have some good size side wall high to protect the rim? i live in ITHACA NY. the roads are not that great.

If the roads aren't that great you could go with 225/45/17's and give yourself some extra sidewall and traction. But the thing is you might rub depending on the offset of your rims. If you get 215/45/17 you won't rub, but the ride will be harsher. Also given what I've seen on a lot of tire websites 225/45/17's are usually cheaper then 215/45/17's (see Tire Rack ) Good Luck!! Thanks, i did look on the tirerack web and there are some rims on there that i like they are the Mille Miglia MM11-3. they are a new style. they recommend 205/45/17. but dont know the side wall high.My buddy at goodyear can get them for $155 instead of $189. Ceck them out. i think they look good.

dont do 205/45/17. stick to 215/45/17. its the closest to overall stock diameter. 95% should agree.

I'll Fourth that.
I got a set of 215/45/ZR17 tires and they are just 0.04mm SMALLER
than the stock FireRocks that came on the Contour...
You can't get any closer than this size !!!
205 will be a narrower tire, and the 45 will make the
sidewall/tire diameter smaller.
