As you might recall... my '95 Contour with a Zetec has been missing BADLY ever since my top radiator hose broke. I replaced wires and plugs, but never got around to the coilpack (it cost OVER $100.00 two years ago!) The plug wires didn't help and the new plugs took me into the land of "WHAT ARE THE CORRECT PLUGS FOR THIS ENGINE?"

It sat all Labor Day weekend and when I went to drive it Tuesday there was absolutely NO SPARK AT ALL coming from the #4 port of the coilpack. It had been firing intermittantly, but now #4 was D E A D. It was running like C R A P!!!! I had to fix it, plus I was tired of ducking every time I passed a cop since it wouldn't pass inspection!

Tonight I put in a Wells coilpack ($43.00 at AutoZone) and re-gapped the Motorcraft AZFS-22PP plugs to .45 (spec. is .50) I also put some silicone pookie on the wire boots at both ends. THE CAR RUNS BETTER THAN IT HAS IN YEARS!!!! That is the years when it last ran because it sat on my driveway since March of '02 with a broke timing belt tensioner.

I put in some injector cleaner and Monday morning I'll take it to the oil change shop for an inspection sticker. In my county in Texas (Rockwall / near Dallas) we are required to pass an emission test as of May of this year. I think it'll pass!!!!

I was having so much fun with it running so nice that I started worrying about getting a speeding ticket! I forgot how well it could run!

WEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Now to eliminate the timing belt slap when it first starts.

Seriously, Thanks to all of you for your advice! Thanks especially to Kennard and Horseydug!

Do yourself a favor and regap the plugs to spec or even to the wide end of spec. If everything else is right, the close gap will not help anything and may even hurt performance some. Generally speaking you will have better idle quality with the plugs gapped to the wide end of spec.

Congratulations on solving the miss with the coil pack.
