Aright, I used to own a ford tempo, and recently took over payments on a 99 contour sport SE, lovely car. I heard the engine was of a porsche designed V8 with 2 cylinders cut off in the design and sold to ford. Very fast for being bone stock, and I like how there are 2 stage runners that take over at higher RPM's. My question is, has anyone turbo charged their 2.5 duratech? I read in the FAQ's nothin about it, and I couldn't find anyhting in the archive. Is there a kit thats a direct bolt on for the 2.5 duratech? I tried finding it but just found the site tonight and registered, so any info or even links would be great, thanks guys. Also, it's an auto, maroone in color.

Live and learn.

The forced induction forum is farther down the list.

Pay attention to how you fill out the search boxes. If you don't choose "and" and more than a day back, you will not get any hits.

And welcome to CEG!

Actually, Porsche designed it as a v6. For pictures of the prototype, check out Terry Haines's photo album over at fordcontour.org...

No turbos for the automatic; the tranny would die a quick, painful death.

Duratec prototypes were Porsche designed but doubt it is a hacked off V8...it is a 60 degree V and V8s are almost always 90 degree (except for the 3.4 SHO V8 which is a 2.5L V6 with 2 cylinders grafted). The buick 3.8 V6 is a sawed off V8 and is 90 degrees..

What Dan said. The Duratec was always built as a V6.

One exception. The 3.4L Duratec V8 would "technically" be 3L Duratec with 2 more cylinders grafted on. However both V6 Duratecs do share the same block & head architecture. (why they are interchangeable)

Hm, well i was just going on what I heard, and I did know about the 2 stage runners just from looking, and seeing 12 instead of 6

Why can't the auto tranny take the force from the turbo? Just wondering, my car has 36,000 miles on it as of today and no problems with it at all whatsoever yet, and the auto tranny seems very strong.

Isn't there also a problem with fit on the ATX for the turbo?

The ATX (CDE4) is relatively weak. Then again so is the MTX (MTX75). It can't take a whole lot more HP then the standard v6 can throw at it. Some of the ATX's will break if you look at them the wrong way to. Just do all the matinence and you should be alright though.
