The driver's seat on my '98 E0 is alittle loose and makes an annoying clicking/groaning sound when I accelerate forward.
Took it to the dealer and they say the seat track is worn.
Unfortunately, there are no parts available to repair this...and requires a whole new seat track from Ford.
I was quoted $450+ with labor.
Do I have any other alternative? Can the the seat track be repaired....or does it really need to be replaced?
Any shops in the Chicago area that do this sort of thing?
Thanks.

mine was done as warranty service, made it a little better, but it didn't last too long. I found a good deal on a Recaro and replaced it. Am very happy now! Check group buys, someone had one going on Corbeau seats. For $450 you can get a whole new seat and brackets that will fit better, reduce weight, and not flex like the stock SVT seat. In Europe, Ford put Recaros in the ST200.

OK, I bit the bullet and ordered a new seat track from Ford and had it installed. The clicking/creaking noise on acceleration is still there.....basically unchanged. It sounds and feels like it's coming from the seat cushion. It's really driving me nuts....any ideas?

You know, I might end up doing that. But for now, I've got alot invested in the stock seat (I've never heard anyone say that before) , and want to see if anyone has any input for me on fixing the stock seat.

you have to pinpoint the problem before you can repair it. I'd try to find an auto trim shop (usually auto glass & trim in the yellow pages), & take it in to see if they can identify the problem & quote repairing it.

The problem with the driver's seat in my EO is me -- 6'5" and 240 lbs. The seat is gradually losing its support. Not sure at this point how much my goal to shed about 20-25 lbs ballast will improve things.
Do you or anyone else know how well Recaros hold up to above-average driver weight?

the type of Recaro I got is a touring seat in the Trend/Style series. They retail at over $800.00 now, but I got a dealer demo seat for just over $200.00. The inflatable lumbar support wasn't working, so I took the seat apart to repair it, and was very impressed with the construction. I think it would hold up quite well under your conditions. The foam is substantially firmer than the Ford seat I replaced, and there is a full shell for the seat bottom and back.

Eight bills! Ouch! I realize a car's front seats are among the most-expensive replacement items, but jeez ... Hope that's a top-of-the-line seat.
Thanks a lot for the info. If dropping some poundage doesn't work, I'll look around for a Recaro demo deal of my own.

I had a set of Recaro built seats in my old VW Corrado. They were the best seats that I ever had. Worked just as well after 100,000 miles as they did when new.
I wish I had those seats in my SVT.
