Hey everyone I have a 99 SVT...after a week of downloading and then burning my own cd's I come to find that my cd player in the SVT wont play my CD-R's...every other ford car and household cd player the CD-R's work fine on, but not in my SVT. I get an error message across the screen after i insert the disc. I have tried different brands of CD-Rs but nothing seems to work. The SVT plays store bought CD's just fine but not the CD-R's... Anyone know whats up with that? Thaks Jake

new anti-piracy measures put into new ford Cd-players are preventing you from playing them......
the anti-piracy measure on this one happens to be that the CD-player in the contour (any of them) is a piece of crap and the best way to get it to play cd-r's is to replace it with something better (I put in a pioneer cd player right after I got my car) if you are still under warrenty soem people have had luck with going back to ford and complaining about it and it will get fixed for a little while at least.

I have the same problem but it will sometimes play cd-r's, you have to take it out and put it back in when it gives you an error. If that doesn't work then i guess a new head unit.

My burnt discs worked in the factory head unit in my '96, that is until the POS decided to stop ejecting discs.
By the way, the mechanism in the factory head unit is made by Sony...

My kids complain CD-Rs work sporadically in my '98 OEM cd player, that's when it's working (HU intermitently shuts off for seconds, minutes, hours or a day -- its choice!).

Make sure you burn them right. You probably use some sort of program so you really don't have to worry about it. The burning must be closed for the disc to work. CD-RWs don't work in many HUs, so make sure they're CD-Rs. They could have just used a crappier HU that wasn't as new. My mom's civic's HU plays CD-Rs, it might even play some CD-RWs.

Go to Circuit City or to Best Buy and find a Pioneer, Kenwood, or Aiwa MP3 compatible player that will play your CDR discs (that you bring with you to try at the store), and then buy the one you like the best. My Aiwa CD player plays CDR/ CDRW in regular CD format or MP3 format (which I prefer). Then you burn MP3 format so you can fit like 150 songs onto one single disc. Then you can just have like 3 discs with every good song you own onto. Then you don't have to constantly shuffle discs around while driving.

the HU in my 99 SVT will play CD-Rs occasionally, but it's really bizarre... a CD-R will be playing, turn off the car, start it again, and sometimes the disc gets ejected with an ERROR message on the HU... I wish it'd either work or wouldn't, to have to keep trying is really annoying!

Try a different brand of CDR's I've had the best luck with TDK's.
