Motortrend October 2003 article
Ford's '06 Duratec 35
It's official: Ford Motor Co. is developing an all-new 3.5-liter V-6, beginning in late 2005 for '06 models, named Duratec 35. It can make as much as 275 horses, and it's said to be a real torquester. The all-aluminum, twin-cam, 24 valve engine is a 60-degree design, so it can fit in a variety of Ford Motor Co. products, including the Freestar and Mercury Monterey minivans, the Mazda6-based Ford Futura, and its Mercury and Lincoln variants. This engine will power the Ford Five Hundred and Freestyle, Mercury Montego, and the new base Mustang, but for model year '05, those cars must soldier on with the barely adequate 3.0-liter Duratec V-6. Ford will spend $335 million to retool its Lima, Ohio, plant for production of the Duratec 35.
I Love duratecs and maybe its will be time for me to buy a new car by 2006.
POST OPINIONS PLEASE!

Sounds great, perhaps a new block to swap in the future but I don't think I will have the money to get one of the new cars in 06'.

Only problem I see with it is that it's made by Ford therefor its bound to have some sort of problems.

hmmmmm....My loan for the contour is up in spring of '06. I was thinking hybrid Futura, but maybe I'll go for the D35. We'll have to see what the financial situation permits.

1991 Crown Vic ex-police cruiser with a 351 Windsor and variable venturi carb (a carb in 1991?). Rusted to pieces - foot went through floor last year, battery terminals gone. Good powerful motor tho - 'body want it?
1996 Contour GL Sport - parts car
(dad's) 1996 Mazda 626 DX (same year they upped to 33.6% of Mazda) - it's made in a Ford plant, with a Ford transmission. Guess what's wrong with it? The tranny.
1988 MX-6 / 1991 MX-6 I don't see them as Fords, but they did own 1/4 of Mazda back then.

I'll bet Ford's prepping their dealers' parts and service departments already to start stocking up on replacement waterpumps that will fit the 3.5.
