amen. My friend just picked up a '03 jetta TDI and it seems like it could give my SVT a good run for its money.
dude, i doubt the TDI would beat the SVT.....

my rommates dad has a jetta TDI and its slow as [censored]. initial punch is good as they some torque.
but my 87 honda accord SLAUGHTERED it after first gear.
my svt would put a few light years on it by 60.
It's either ATX, nobody knows how to shift them or it had a clogged intake. I've taken the necessary steps to reduce that problem.

The North American version might not but I think the far more powerful European versions might have a shot.

my little brother used to have a '00 vw gti. it had a 2.0 four banger and it had every bolt on they made for it(intake w/ heatsheild, racing wires/plugs, custom exhaust w/header, a neuspeed racing chip, port/polished head, suspension, etc...). his car couldn't even beat my '92 passat which had about 1000 lbs. on him and a bone stock 2.0 16v-i4. i used to laugh at him because he spent all this money and he still couldn't beat my old slug passat with 130,000 miles(168,00 when i sold it for the down on my '99 csvt). i would have to say from my stand point the vw don't stand a chance. but if you do go at it the only thing they'll be bragging about is the better gas mileage they got.

but the mk3 gti's with a vr6 certainly are sweet. my friend has one, but he NEVER drives it like he should. It was funny because he brought in a Euro VW magazine yesterday and it had a 10 page article on sleepers, so I looked at it and it was funny as hell. Every car in the article ranged from high 15s to low 17s. Doesn't sound like a sleeper to me...

Yeah theirs have I believe 120 and you can get it chiiped to get it to 150 HP!!! But dubs have deisels monoploized. They don't need to change anything until Ford brings theirs in the Focus sometimes in the next couple years.

The Ford TDCi is a far more refined engine than even the Volkswagen european PD engines.
The more powerful engines aren't able to pass EPA emissions so VW couldn't bring them over even if they wanted to.

I am in Ireland here, and there are loads of the new pd VW diesels. They sell them in the Passat (most of these are either the 115 or 130bhp version) in the Golf and the Bora (Jetta I think you guys call it) Even the A4 shares the 130bhp version with all these cars. They are quick through first gear they would stay with my V6 Mondeo, but once I am in second they just have to kiss my ass goodbye. You SVT guys would kick their butt, however they are lighting quick in gear once on boost. We would have to drop into 3rd to really pull away from them. Still sound like a tractor to me
