Well, I need to modify my Contour for Keyless Start. And I don't mean the little black key fob & black box the windshield repair place sells. I mean I need to break the steering lock. I have no key. Usually I can start Ford products (and others too) using any old Ford key. But, with only 38k miles of wear, that has proven useless on this car. So how can I get the lock off without a key? I already have all the plastic covers etc off.

Not sure about how you go about this, but if have PATS, no key=no start. The computer won't give spark or fuel unless the key is next to the PATS receiver.

PATS: PAssive Anti Theft System - the little red light on the dash that blinks when the car is off.

PATS was optional wo you may not have it.

Take your registration to the local Ford dealer and have them cut a new key from the VIN. If it has PATS that's the only way it's starting.

Then it will never run! PCM wants to see module and correct signal. There are bypass modules available. The remote starts use them. But if you aren't interested in buying a key, i didn't think you want to buy an alarm device either.

Alright, I am ripping out (ok, carefully removing) the motor and trans in a week or two anyway. But the steering is locked. I can just use my dad's Chevy pickup to push it to the garage, but functional steering helps a lot!

Local Ford dealer wanted something like 150$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! FOr a fcking key!!! Dammit I thought I was getting ripped off when the Mercedes-Benz dealer wanted 25$ for a replacement for a relative's car.

uhhh.... what i'd say is get a couple dudes to turn the wheel hard enough to break the lock.

two years ago, i "lost" the keys to my old 90 nissan sentra. another dude (had ahold of top of wheel) and i (bottom) got the lock to break. i then hotwired (well, just used a screwdriver to turn the switch) the car and drove it about 60 miles home, of course that was a stick so it was kinda easy.
