Anybody have a good tutorial on wiring subs/amp impedance and so on?

I have a DVC JBL 1200D sub and I have a jensen XA2150 amp. Obviously, a 2 channel amp 150x2 at 4 ohms. I've got on channel to one voice coil and another channel to the other voice coil. It sounds good and i've had the setup for awhile without any problems. That makes 4 ohms all around right? Or is the sub seeing 2 ohm load? I'm so confused

The rule for calculating resistance is if the resistors (or whatever, in this case subs) are wired in series, you just add the resistances to get the total. If wired in paralell, you use the formula (1/R1)+(1/R2)=(1/Req.) Req. is the equivalent resistance or the total, so if you have two 4 ohm subs in paralell on one channel, then the equivalent load is 2 ohms. In your case, the amp is having a 4 ohm load on each channel, but if you bridged it and wired in paralell, it would be a 2 ohm load.

ok i understand that

*copies to notepad*
So how would i wire in parrallel? Connect the pos of one coil to the pos of another then run to the amp using one wire? Same with the neg?

Does the sub have two 4 ohm VCs? If so, I wouldn't wire in parallel. A 2 ohm mono load would be too much for the amp.

4 ohms per coil.

The sub is working pretty good with each channel goin to each coil. I was just wondering what kinda set up i actually had.

I won't wire in parallel.
