Okay tell me if any of you have heard of this type of thing before. Yesterday I shortened my shifter on my pre-98 from the how-to evrything was fine driving it last night, and while on my way to get my physical and drug test for a job, I went to put it in third, wouldnt go, then it would go half-way in---grind, and get stuck there, with force I could get it back to neutral, now to drive around all I have is 1st,2nd,4th,5th, and reverse. Is my transmittion shot or what??????

I had the same thing on mine... Couldn't shift into 3rd at higher RPM's just horrible grinding. If I'd get into higher rpm's, push in the clutch let the rpm's drop I could get it into 3rd. In the end, bad 3rd gear syncro, bad 3rd gear, replace 4th gear sychro, plus misc. parts and a whole bunch of labor (10+ hours). Luckily I had JUST bought the car so it was under the 30 day/1,000 mile warranty.

so you didnt have to replace the whole transmission, just synchros and lil stuff?? or what? In the end I may have to go to a junkyard hoping to get a diff. trans. for not too bad of a price and just swapping it, cause I dont have enough with college coming up to go with a bulldog.

I couldn't just get a new transmision. The dealer said something along the lines of "We wanted to just replace the whole transmision, because it would've been a lot easier, however, you can't get complete new transmisions for SVT's anymore, so we basically rebuilt the one you have".. True statement or not I don't know, but that's what I've been told. I think a new tranny would've been a better solution, but since it wasn't possible they didn't do it.
