Well, I took my car to the shop because the air conditioning wasn't working. The compressors "clutch" isn't catching correctly (apparently it's magnegtic), but when they manually touch it, the compressor works like a champ. They want $800 to replace the compressor, is there ANYWAY I can get around this?
Thanks in advance =/

An automotive a/c specialist maybe able to replace clutch without removing compressor from car. Get another opinion.

I just had my clutch/coil replaced on Jun 4. I also had my accumulator replaced. So, you don't actually have to replace the whole ac compressor. They CAN replace only the cluth. I'd take your car somewhere else, maybe call around and see who can do it for you. It costed me $222 for the ac clutch, the price for a compressor is $320 buying it thru Ford. So, to save you $100, you should bring it somewhere else that can do the work you want. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

I had a compressor go bad on a Dodge Intrepid I used to own. Believe it or not, the dealer gave me the option of a used compressor from a large salvage outfit that warranteed it for three years! I did it. The warranteed compressor with the clutch was $175. By the time they did all the installation, evacuation, refill and so on it was $320. It worked fine for the next two years until I traded it. A possible option. Remember, all cars are running with "used" parts.

I need a new compressor and was quoted $675 for part, installation, and recharge of a/c. If I ever get around to fixing it, I'm going to the junkyard and installing it myself.

The reason I need a new compressor is cuz it leaks, so mine needs recharging. Anybody know of a cheap way to patch a compressor? I know it wouldn't be right, but if it works....
