My tranny goes in on Tuesday for some work:
Flush from ford oil (put in after my rebuild) to Amsoil possible inline filter line pressure change
The line pressure change will be done by a small device that hooks into the computer to trick it into uping the line pressure. (not from Ebay trust me) The module costs about $100 CDN i believe.
They have been putting these into cars for some time with no negative results. when I was in last time they were putting one into a brand new 2003 F-250 King Ranch V10 for a guy who wasnt satisfied with the shift firmness.
This is not designed for the CD4E, but we are going to install it, and test it to see if it helps out and is safe. If it doesnt give results or gives unwanted results it will be removed.
The model we will be using is for another car of similar weight/power.
I will post guinea pig results after Tuesday to see how it worked out.
Manufacturer/model info will be given at that time with possible pictures / maybe even a b4/after video....

The best thing you can do for a low mileage the CD4E is install the SK-CD4E-JR shift kit, external filter and cooler. I donā??t think raising the line pressure is a good thing to do to a CD4E since they have been known to burst torque converters and bend pumps due to high pressure. Raising the CTL pressure (thatā??s probably what they are doing via the PCM) will make for hard shifts. The shift kit fixes some flaws in the CD4E and improves shift points and feel. I think it a great improvement.

have the shift kit, upgraded torque convertor, cooler, and chip even. just looking for more performance safely. external filter is on my list; may be done this time, or maybe down the road.

Want better performance? Get an MTX.
Seriously, though, as the recipient of a backdoor raping due to an ATX failure, I'd be hesitant to install anything on my new tranny that could potentially create problems. If you do this, please do a lot of testing and report back with your findings. However, don't expect too many ATX owners to jump on the bandwagon.

so far after having a chip put in and switching to amsoil the car shifts incredibly fast. the shifts are so firm and so fast that if you blink you will miss it. you really can feel the shifts tho it just urches the car forward each shift but not in a barbarian way, it just feels nice and tight - the way the car should have been from the factory.
id say that if the shift was taking 0.5 seconds to shift each gear now its maybe 0.1 seconds. im going to have to get a small vid of it shifting to show it. it also holds gears nicely even coming down to 0 it holds them like an MTX. you can tell its locking the TC alot faster as well, no more jumping rpm when just touching the gas, it just goes in that gear where it is.
Im 98% satisfied so far. only thing stopping me from being 100% is the flashing O/D light. the codes its giving us so far are really wierd. we're getting things like the resistance when your in each gear (P-R-D-2-1) is a little off. and a few sensors being a little off as well. im contributing that to the chip and extra wiring the pcm isnt used to. but the codes arent damaging at all. we're trying it on a trial basis to see if they do stay, or if the tranny does anything wierd, if so the chip comes out. so far it hasnt and the chip is doing its job.
the people we got this from says that alot of contours have had these put in with no problems. so we'll be in contact with the company to see what may be going on.
vid coming soon...

It shifts pretty good, as long as there never any bang shifting, I'd be happy with it as it is.

I would be interested to see what sort of line pressure you are running. Just to see if you are still within the safe limits of things.
Just remember, high line pressure is what cracks the forward drums in these things. It can also cause the a number of other problems, but as long as it's within an acceptable range and can be maintained, I don't see a problem with it.
Where exactly is the chip installed? How was it installed? Is this something that a "do-it-yourselfer" could do early one Saturday morning? How much does one of these little shift bugs go for?

The tranny shop guy said everything is ok and still within its limits, I'm still concerned tho just do to the flashing O/D light - still looking into it. The chip itself cost a little over $50 CDN, and they charged me an hour to install it. its right above the tranny, in fact you can see it right below my air filter.
I am worried about it tho, first off the codes, second it is really firm, I do like what it did for the car but the thought of it doing harm to the trans concerns me. I will be trying it for a few more days, then probly taking it out (should take 20 mins or so). Unless we can get word as to why it may be doing what it is, the place my tranny shop bought it from said contour guys have been using them with no problems.
Overall I am very impressed with it, I just can't get over the blinking O/D light. Probly wouldn't look too good if I go to sell it like that. So I'll probly just take it out as my trans shifts really nice as is. I dont think it will make any difference in terms of 1/4 mile times (its not like we have the need to shift through all of our gears).
Will keep this thread updated as I learn more. If it doesn't work out then at least I tried something new...
