So I bought my sub...I was looking into a stryke av12, but after a week of calling and leaving messages to no avail, I decided to give my money to someone who actually wants it. I went with the Adire shiva 12"
Based on advice from the guru's here, i'll be giving it about 300w, it will be mounted in a custom fiberglass enclosure, sealed of course.
I have decided to keep the pioneer 6x9's I have in my doors for the time being. I think they sound pretty good. I'm wondering if I should get a decent 4 channel amp for my door speakers. i have a Pioneer DEH P8000R, which puts out 50wX4 according to the book. Is it worth it or should I play it by ear - literally? Aside from that I'm going to put some sound deadening in the doors. So far everything I can find within my budget puts out like 87wX4, so I'm not so sure the difference would be that obvious. What to do, what to do...

It can't hurt to see how they sound off the HU before you go out and buy an amp. Keep in mind your HU is 50x4 but that is max power, not RMS. Even if you get an amp that is say 50 or 75 watts RMSx4 it should be a great improvement. Just make sure to pay carefull attention to the power ratings of the amp you buy. It could say 1000 watts max power on the front and when you break it down it's rms ratings are nowhere close, and those are the numbers that are important.

The Truth behind Head Units Power Now with technology advancements with T-Class, you'll probably start seeing head units that can do 30 (+) watts per channel R.M.S. in the near future. If you can afford an amplifier, I would get one. You'll love the difference it will make. There are plenty of deals to be had on the internet. You could always go the EBAY route and pick up a great amplifier used. Or, pick up an amp on sale.

Before I got my subs I was running my 6x8s off my amp. I have Pioneer 6x8 and I was using a 680w 4 channel amp. They sounded really good. Nice and clear. Right now they're running off the HU. They sound good but not as good as when they were running off the amp.

There are three ways to do things: the right way, the wrong way, and the Max Power way!
Isn't that just the wrong way?
Yeah, but faster!

ok so new question:
If I get an amp, how am i going to run the new speaker wire into the door(s)? I'm guessing if im going to go through the trouble, i might as well ditch the stock wiring.

At first I was thinking that replacing the stock wiring sounded like a huge job. But now I dont think it'd be that hard. Since you dont have to feed the wires through the doors to the h/u (they would go to the amp), you could just pull the old wires through and toss em then find an easier route from the amp to the door speakers. Then again, I dont really think you need to replace the wires.. But if it would make you feel better, go ahead =) Just find a good way to hide the wires.
As for an amp on your doors, the difference can be amazing. Depending on what you get, you can turn it up as loud as you want and still get crisp clear sound. This is what I plan on buying. (great deal)

wouldn't you HEAR the difference, not SEE??? just kiddin. i agree with everyone here. even a 50x4 rms amp will sound cleaner and crisper then a HU. running the wires isn't that hard, just can be a pain sometimes.
