Sorry for spamming up the forums with my threads, there are just so many problems with this Mercury Mistake 1998 Zetec-VCT 2.0L L4.

Anyway, this is a simple question. I'd like to work on my serpentine belt and tighten this sucker down. The belt likes to chirp when it's warm, idle and AC is on.

So I'm after the Word Doc pages from the Ford DVD that go to this engines serpentine belt. Or maybe you all could provide some pictures and show me what part to tighten. Heck, if someone could show me the part, the hole, the direction of clockwise or whatever..that would be great!

I need a beer...Too much stress.

The tensioner is automatic, it can't be adjusted sounds to me like you may need a new belt.

I had someone put on a new belt last year because
it was looking pretty bad. For the most part it looks
okay. It's sort of smooth with fine cracks that I think
are normal.

So there is no way for me to add more tension?

Maybe you need a new tensioner?

Does the tensioner have to be replaced with the belt? How long does the tensioner last?

I think it's fine... umm.. maybe?

The engine runs crappy at low idle, so when I turn on the AC she starts to sqeek the belt. Looks like the belt is bouncing around in there because of the engine.

Sounds like the AC condensor is the problem.....the bearings may be drying out.
