I had 132,000+ miles on my original water pump before it broke. My SVT had 33k on it before that one broke.
I'm going on 51K miles on another plastic water pump in my SE (buddy replaced it cause it was free).
Not sure which one the SVT has (previous owner experienced the wp issue and replaced it).
Time to give him a call and find out.

I replaced the waterpump on my 1995 SE at 91,000 miles and on my 1999 SVT at 21,900 miles. Neither failed but the 1995 SE had cracks radiating from the center shaft. Both were replaced as a preventative measure with the metal-impellar design pump.
It looks like the failure is caused by rust formation between the metal shaft and the plastic impellar. The black plastic is too rigid to accommodate the pressure applied by the expanding rust so it cracks at the center and radiates outward. The revised white/cream-colored pump impellar probably has more elasticity to accommodate rust formation.

I'm almost at 130,000 miles on the original water pump. My car has the newer style of plastic impeller. I asked two different mechanics about replacing it, but they discouraged me, saying they hadn't seen many problems with them around here.

I thought mine would make it since I donā??t race or over rev the motor, but it broke at 87k mi. on my way to work (and on my birthday) cost me $50 for the tow. Change it now and order all your hoses (there are ten of them and they are not easy to find). My car was laid up for a week waiting for the parts.
You are sitting on a time bomb. Donā??t say I didnā??t warn you.
jeff
have you fixed your ford lately?
