Wow, amazing to see some Contours haven't had any problems. I think mine has had the most repairs on it. As I just finished paying $700 for repairing the air conditioning, my airbag light is now blinking. It's so funny, after 1 thing is fixed, another thing pops up. I bought my Contour back in 1997, and I have replaced everything under the hood at least 2 times, (except for water pump and alternator - replaced only 1 time). 166,000 miles later. If I didn't like my car so much and if it wasn't paid for, I'd have gotten rid of it back in 1997.
But, if I'd buy another car, I'd just have to fix NEW problems. All cars have them.
Also, my car was probably made on a Monday.

My 95 felt solid, I rarely had problems with it. IMHO, the first-gen Contours were the best made.

ok with the amp and all that, i don't really blast the raido (sometimes in the day). I'm not "advertising" my car to be stolen. My mechanic spliced some wires and fixed the problem. I'm still not sure what he said it was(not a starter cylanoid), but some type of problem with the wireing with the starter.
now with the previous owner....i agree that they abused the hell out of the car. in the trunk you can see like melted previous amp wires. Sorry for being so hysterical, but i sure picked a winner give me some time I'll love the tour again fellas. don't worry

Check you grounds and try bypassing the lines to the starter with jumper cables and see if it starts ok! Then it's only cables!

Everytime I get rid of one bug, another pops up! I get as pissed as possible with my SVT. I walk away from it in disgust, wondering why I ever bought the used-up POS. Then, I drive it and fall in love all over again with its' superb handling and superior acceleration. It shifts like a dream, the clutch is positive; it responds to my every desire with all the heart it has. Ahh, if I could only find a woman to cradle me with the same tender but secure grip of its' seats. Only a faithful old dog could ever match my SVT's desire to please me! John 98 SVT I guess I'll admit, I did have a couple of these moments too like yall. Like when my waterpump impeller cracked (and it took days and $$$ to figure it out), and when my cooling fans burned up (in Arizona before FORD had the recall), and not to mention the defrost not blowing that winter when it was really moist and damp. But all in all, I still dig my ride when it pulls through for me on a nice windey country road

I'm in the same boat. I owe more than it is worth. I've never owned a car with this many problems. One right after another. Big problems, little problems, they just keep comming.

Do the Wiring Harness Recall! My car had charging problem, stalling problem, and hesistation problem. I think the bad wiring harnesses caused all of them (caused the charging problem for sure)! GET IT DONE FIRST before you try to spend money fixing something else.
When did you get your car? I paid $4200 for mine and that was almost 2 years ago. I think you got ripped off for $6000!

My 98 SE V6 is probaby worse than Ladas built in the 80's. Thankfully it's still under ESP Premium - Ford has done over $12,000 Canadian in repairs during the last 10 months. This piece of crap is GONE when the first minor problem arises after ESP is finished. I will lose about 4K but this thing will suck me dry so I perfer to take the hit upfront, not have go to the shop twice a month, and enjoy trouble free foreign built motoring.
I will be buying Japanese, Korean or German car next time. No more Ford junk.
