Ok, i had done many changes (replacements of parts) in my Ford contour 95 2.0L (4 cyl) 145K mi. but today i had my first overheating (smoke coming from under the hood) experience...the mechanic told me since the fans are working ok that is most likely a water pump issue...so i think i should change it...

here's my question since am a doityourselfer

- i have the chiltons manual for my car but if anyone else know (due to experience) a better step by step way to do it...I WILL BE APPRECIATED A LOT...!! (website, pdf file, diagram, etc)
- What else should i replace besides (Water pump, water pump gasket and timing belt) ?
- things that i should take care of the most during the process of installing cuz i think uninstalling shouldnt be that hard...

any help guys it will be very helpfull....thanks in advance for your cooperation and i hope this is the first and the last experience of overheating

sincerely

Renato

It's a helluva job. Go ahead and do the timing belt, tensioners, and serpetine belt while you're at it. You'll have to set the timing again, so you'll need a new valve cover gasket and a few other things to hold the cams in the right place. Have you changed the coolant lately? Also throw a 180 degree thermostat (should be able to get it at autozone) in, it helps immensely. Did your temp gauge go in the red? Did you damage anything?
