Last week I hit the drivers power window switch to pay a toll. Left the gate and with no warning the window wouldn't go back up when I hit the switch. All other windows operate from the switch. No warning signs(slowness; noise; etc), just no window lift. Worse off...It was pouring rain. Any ideas?

Does the motor make noise when you press the button? If it does, maybe the window came out of the track. Take off your door panel and see if you can tell what might be wrong. If the motor isn't making noise, then possibly a fuse, wire, etc.

"Wow, that sank fast." "Yeah, like a rock."

No motor sound. Drivers switch runs all other window lifts, but not the drivers. Since the drivers is used the most frequently, what do you think about the switch. Do you know anyway I can jump the motor to check it's operation?

Did you run over anything in the road or something seemingly unrelated? The same thing happened to one of my rear windows, switch wouldn't work even though all other windows worked. Turned out I had run over something that severed the wire. On my 97 Contour the wires run along the driver side. The sever was right underneath the trunk release lever. It's pretty hard to see unless you have the car up on a rack though.
Good luck with yours.

my drivers door window switch is jacked too...will lower but not raise rear left window and currently will not work at all for front passenger window after going to period of 3 weeks working perfectly....switch has been shady since i bought the car but since i can reach the two broken switch windows from my seat it doesn't bug me too much....it great to have a car small enough to sit in the drivers seat and be able to let up the front and rear windows

My sister's 98 Mystique did same thing and it was the switch. If you are good you can take the switch apart and clean the contacts with some 1000 grit wet and dry abrasive cloth. But the better thing would be to replace the switch.
