It's like saying why add a turbo to a contour. Since no FWD street car will be a real drag car. Why do people buy different intakes for their contours, on a duratec, a different intake wouldn't drop your 1/8 mile time by 3/10 of a second.
You're still not getting it.
Removing parts of the body in order to gain performance from a street car is a bit rediculous. Removing a hood is not something you effectively can run on the street. If he ever went to the 1/4 mile track, he'd be slower due to the massive amount of wind resistance and turbulence caused by not running hood. I'm sure your ricer friend doesn't realize that though. Why does he stop at the hood? Why not take off the front fenders, front and rear bumper covers, trunk lid, bumper reinforcements, trunk lid/spoiler, and seats? That's about 180lbs he could remove from the car in about an hour and will definately improve his timeslip (probably 14.8s). Or is that just a little bit rediculous?

Yeah, the thing that comes to mind for me when I read about ricers yanking their hoods, bumper, etc is the Sport Compact Car article where they took a later model Sentra SE and made it run low 14s "stock". They pretty much took a sawzal to the Sentra to where it was pretty much a seat, 4 tires, and an engine.

You're still not getting it. You go to the drag strip to get the fastest times possible. On the street you'd have your spare tire, subs, etc. in the car but most people remove these at the track. Same things goes for the hood. Though not everybody is going to do that and that's OK. So basically if removing something is stupid to do to get better times, then it's stupid to modify the car at all. It's stupid to run at the drag strip with a street car. Maybe one day you'll get it when you're racing for cash prizes (heads up) and get beat by somebody that took the time to remove weight AT THE TRACK. And though this might not go for every car, I'm guessing he'd have better 1/4 mile times than stock w/o hood. I seriously wind turbulence would slow him down enough to overcome that 3/10 of a sec loss. I think you may just be jealous that his car is faster than your's.

I'm not going to get into this argument, but his maxima runs mid 14s. Didn't your friend run a 15.1?

Yep, I'm a troll that's been registered about 2 years longer than yourself Just because I don't post a lot doesn't mean I'm a troll. I race and hang out with about 5 CSVT owners in Kansas City including the infamous DemonSVT, OutlawdSVT, and Sam (had the first SC'd CSVT).
It will take your friend a lot more than a 9.8 to beat me in the 1/8. I'll even keep my hood on
As for "heads up racing", they don't allow you to remove seats, interior, hoods, etc at the two tracks I go to.
