I have a 1995 ford contour gl with a 2.0 the acceralition is very slow but it with pick up after a certian rpm or mph... what could be the problem???? dirty injectors or bad fuel filteror what? I just had a new engine wiring harness replaced last month.


modifactions are a 2000 deck lid with spoiler, wood grain dash with Pioneer 50x4 cd player, 5 spoked alloy rims full bra, K&N air filter, tinted head light covers, fog lights..... I am looking for more ideas too modify my car any ideas.... 5% tint on windows... more mods to follow... cold air intake and new exaust.

from what i've read, try a fuel filter first, quick and easy to change and it should fix most of the fuel starvation problems. Just don't get air in your lines like i did (read the post called "fuel pressure remedies", i'm trying to get that glitch worked out right now :rolleyes: frown

Also from what I understand, the Zetec's power is at the higher rpm's. :p

Was it running better before the wiring harness was replaced?

Depending on how bad your problem is it may just be the way it is! My Zetec needs higher rpm's to produce the response I like! wink

I believe that a characteristic of 16 valve 4-cylinder engines is that they seem to start out "slow" because the power band is in the upper rpm range.

As another thought, I've also noticed that Fords seem to be slow off the line initially & make up for it later....this is based on experience with 3 different Ford vehicles of different fuel injector/valves per cylinder/number of cylinders etc...just my 2 cents smile

that is so true. The zetec contour i drove before i chose my mystique was so slooooooww...it just would not pick up speed at all. Has it always been that slow?

As some of us have said, the Zetec tends to be "slow" at the lower rpm's and makes up for it later at the higher end! After all, we are talking about a 4cyl engine and not a V6! What do you expect to get from a stock 4cyl engine? I'm guessing your Mystique has a V6 and if so why try to compare the 4cyl to a V6?

If your Zetec was really slow then you had more problems going on than just the fact of owning a 4 banger!
