Svts + SE's come with the maf-aluminum
yet 2000+ cougars came with plastic mafs

heat issues maybe? any input
I ask because I can get the earlier kind or keep my original

my guess is to cut cost.

off all the countours I have seen, SVT and not it seems that all 2000 models have plastic MAF instead of metal ones.

any guess about the reason for the change is as good as mine

This is simple a cost issue. Like so many other products today, it is cheaper to make an injected molded part versus an aluminum casting. Heat is not a problem on the intake side. Matter of fact, some newer cars are manufactured using a complete plastic intake manifold. Once again for cost.

yeah my friends intrepid has a plastic intake manifold. they should atleast stop skimping on headlights. glass headlights woudl be so great instead of the plastic that gets nasty. even the import cars are starting to have plastic. they probally mad eit plastic for safety reasons too but it sucks.

yea i read an old post that said plastic was better for heat though, instead of aluminum
also the internals were a tiny bit different i heard on the new plastic ones

i might just buy it and see how it does...or eventually get it dynoed
