I was just wondering if this is normal.....my CSVT after being driving for about 15 minutes or more will be pretty darn hot. For example, it is probably too hot to touch (at least for a long period of time).....you can feelt he heat radiating from the engine bay with the hood up. As far as the temperature gauge in the dash.....it reads normal....the needle is usually right in the middle. So is this heat normal for this engine?

The engines on all of the Contours/Mystiques we have had were very warm to the touch. My 1999 SE Sport Duratec runs in the middle of the temp gauge (11 o'clock), so did our 1998 Mystique Duratec, and our 1998.5 SVT. I don't have anything written on my temp gauge (the 99 SE Sport). Every other Contour I've seen has NORMAL written on it, the needle usually points between the R and the M. I always wondered why mine has no lettering. Anyone else have a Contour or Mystique with no lettering on the temp gauge?

I have always noticed that all the Duratecs run pretty hot. The SVT even more then the regular ones. Sounds normal to me.

Good to hear, I just wanted to make sure all was in order especially since I just replaced my water pump (had to take the thermostat out in the process) and I wanted to make sure I didn't mess anything up. Thanks for your help

My gauge reads no higher than the o of normal and usually has a hard time making it to the n on the highway. That is in the Duratec. The Zetec on the other hand frequents the a of normal on the gauge. Not sure if that helps you.

My SVT acts the same exact way. It's normal.

My engine temps range from around 170 in normal driving to 190's in rush hour traffic. (I.E. stop & heatsoak then repeat!)

Definitely MUCH better then how it came from the factory...

of the three duratec's may family has they all sit right at O in Normal. the only time anyone here has sen one move was when the waterpump failed in my fathers car.

also the normal on the dash is on all pre 98 dashes. The lettering was decontented in the post 98 models

My temperature usually ranges between 195 and 205, sometimes as high as 210 around town on a warm 85-90 degree day.
