I set out this morning to replace my front brakes, and ran into a problem right away in that the front left wheel won't come off the car. It looks like the wheel and rotor are rusted together.

I doused it with PB Blaster, I pounded on it with a sledge, I pried it with a crowbar. After 3 hours, it still won't budge. Nothing seems to help. Anyone got any ideas?

you've NEVER rotated your wheels?? Those wheels should come off every 6000 miles for rotation, so if they're rusted together, you've got some serious issues to work out.. . .

They've been rotated before, but its been a while, about 15K miles. I admit I have been neglegent in that respect.

Kick the living sh!t out of them until they loosen up. Or, go drive it with the lugs off. I'm sure, purely based on carma, that your wheels would come off then.

I would say take a rubber mallet and whack the crap out of it. . .15k, WOW, you must live in salt HELL for it to rust on that strong. . .otherwise, you'll have to get your axle's chopped off. That's like last resort, though.

Umm, no. My friends Focus which has just spent time in Oregon and Washington (which use no salt) had his rear wheel rusted on in only 7K miles. I'd take a rubber mallet or be careful with a sledge and hit the lower portion of the tire from the inside going out. It should bust it loose.

Well, don't drive it too far with the lugs off, but if you losen them a couple of turns, lower the car and drive it a few feet the wheel should pop free. I've done it a few times now with my CSVT without any problems.

Use some antiseize on the hub before you put the wheel back and you won't have future problems.

Also one thing, on your studs there should be
spiny looking washers,(on two of them) they are
to help the wheel and hub from attaching..
I never knew this till I asked... now, if you
have aftermarket wheels.. some shops remove those washer
thingy's

my back left stock wheel would do the same. it did take a while. i sprayed wd40 in the lug holes and in between the wheel and hub, careful not to spray the rotors. i continued doing so every 10-15 minutes for a half hour. then hitting it w/ a mallet finally got it off.
