Hey guys. I bought my Ford a year ago and of course there was no service manual. I recently purchased Audi A4 Turbo and I'm selling the Ford. However recently service light started to come on every once in a while. Its on the left side by tachometer, its orange with like a fen sign or something??? Anyone has an idea what it is? If it stays on, I just turn the engine off-on and that does it. Its ok afterwards.

fen sign? is it an orange box with a X through it? If so, just top off your coolant. But I am not sure what you are saying by fen.

The location of the light (below tach.) would suggest that you guys are right and it is the 'fan' icon that ChezChamp is talking about. Add 50/50 coolant to water mix to just above the full line and it should go away. Contours like to have the resivor FULL and then some. If that does not work the sensor may be the problem, but I would guess that this will solve the prob. Periodically mine will come on for 30 secs. after start-up then go away. Just top'er off and I am good to go.

because he says it just comes on and will turn off.. sounds like coolant.. and hey, did Car and Driver really say that about the SVT? If so do you have Mag month and year by chance?

Yeah thankx a lot, I bet its the coolant. The thing is that the car received tune-up like 10-14 days ago and everything was ok, so I wasn't sure what that is, didn't think it would be a coolant. I thought its something major. Thank u
PS: Yep it is the X sign, I reffered to it as a "fen" sign.

Okay, you asking me that is really messing with me. I was positive it was them, but now I cant find it and am hoping I am not some tool for having the wrong acknowledgement in my sig. I am pretty sure that it was from an article they had on the web (someone correct me if I am way off base here). If I am remembering the right one they compared :
VW Jetta GLX Highs: Cutting-edge styling, ritzy interior, slick-revving V-6 Lows: Chassis porpoises in response to throttle movements, vague steering at high g. The Verdict: A classy looker that can't dance. Infiniti G20t Highs: Trusty handling, silky clutch and shifter. Lows: Weak motor, weak styling that's tarted up with performance promises beyond the machinery's ken. The Verdict: A poised and likable machine dressed in embarrassing duds. Saab 9-3 Highs: Dares to be quirky in the Saab tradition, lots of turbo power, forgiving at speed. Lows: Rubbery controls, particularly the brakes; grippy cloth seats act like Velcro as you slide in. The Verdict: Reawakens every Saab memory of the past 30 years. Ford SVT Contour Highs: Plenty of punch, plenty of grip, plenty of road-racer attitude. Lows: More growling noises than a junkyard dog, serious shortage of back-seat space. The Verdict: A hormone-injected budget sedan that loves to play. BMW 323i Highs: Ultra-refined machinery, throttle seems to anticipate your foot s next move, exceptionally stable as a freeway cruiser. Lows: The refinement, impressive as it is, gets in the way of the sport we expect of the 3-series The Verdict: It s with mixed emotions that we announce the 3-series graduation to adulthood. Audi A4 1.8T Quattro Highs: Classy appearance inside and out, wonderfully agile handling when pressed, superb control of body motions. Lows: Small-displacement four is weak on torque, shifter feels a bit distant. The Verdict: Agility and artistry in a compact package.
I have the text copied for the top 3, SVT, A4, & beemer but little else.
The magazine article (does not have that quote though), is Car and Driver March 1997.
Ill continue the searchâ?¦.
