Hey there,

I have a 99 CSVT with 43,000 miles on it. Worked fine last night, but after a huge Thunderstorm last night, car wouldn't start this morning (just kept cranking). I thought it might be the distributor cap (crack, leak...), but I don't know how to get at that or if that is even the problem? My CEL has been on for quite some time now with a PO460 (Fuel Level Sensor), but I've no problems besides some slight hesitations when accelerating......

Any thoughts???

Never heard of a Fuel level Sensor. No distributor cap on this car man. You are dating yourself. Our cars run a distributorless ignition. If you have code for fuel than that is most likely your problem. Bad fuel pump? Sounds like you aren't getting any gas if it's just cranking. Might be time for the dealership. They'd be able to pin point it for you.

I've never heard of that code on a Contour.

Maybe bad plug wires. Dampness under the hood after rain.

Of course, you could have a faulty fuel gauge sender and you are out of gas???

I'd certainly put a gallon or two in there, get some silicon spray or WD-40 to spray down the ignition wires, etc to make sure the connections are good, etc.

The rain and the no-start are probably not a coincidence, but rather are related.

on the drivers side lower panel right above where the dead pedel on your car is or the trunk release is a fuel reset button, there is a small hole in your plastic if you stick your finger in it and push it down this will reset your fuel pump, I know this sounds stupid but I just spent 100$ towing my car to ford so they could push this buttonb.

I don't recall seeing anyone post this code before either. Definately reset the fuel shut-off. You should hear the fuel pump run for about 2 seconds when you first turn the key to 'on' just before cranking. (Little whirring sound from under back seat.) There is also a tire valve looking thing on the injector harness where you can check for fuel reaching the engine.
