No symptoms per se... It is a recall to replace the switch as it could melt down and start a fire. The dealer will replace it even if your switch is working properly, which yours isn't. I had mine replaced twice, and my car has a nice melted plastic scar around the fan fuse plug too. I guess I was lucky. eek

Actually, I was told by my local dealer, and Ford Service when I called the 1-800 number, that if only if the part is broken will they change it. Unless it is a safety recall. I had my heater resistor-M06- (I think this is the correct spelling) changed, but the blower switch-M07- on the actual panel was still working, so the dealer refused to change it out. If it is the actual resistor that is out, you may have a problem getting them to change it as the recall is something like 76K or 6 years. Mine was 77K and seven years old, so I had to pay for a new resistor part. The heater blower switch is still current up to 10 years or 100K I believe. Check out AllData.com, they have the list of current and expired(as in you pay for it yourself) recalls.

GLCHICK is right. I had a similar problem with my 98 Contour. I had to pay for my replacement.

I had the problem. I got the postcard in the mail about the extended warranty. Talked to my Ford dealer and they said that they could not change it unless it went bad. Left for a vacation to Montana the next week and the switch went bad half way to Montana. The symtoms are all you have is the fastest fan speed, no slow or medium fan. When I got back from vacation the Ford dealer fixed it under warranty. At least it got fixed with out cost to me.

I just picked up my car today from the dealership. I had taken it in for a rattle nise, oil change and the recall items. The switch being one of them. I was told that they do not fix it unless it breaks! Then they tried to charge me 80.00 for looking into the rattle while they had it in the air doing the oil change. Dont think so. They did tell me that the rough idle and 'surging' problem would require them reprograming the computer and another 120.00 dollars.
Still dont think so!

Doncha just love Ford? Since I work at a TV station I am trying to get one of our reporters to do a story on the way Ford handles their recalls. They really have that "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" (even if WE know it will break haha!) mentality down pat. wink
