I have a 97 Contour 2.5 V6 Auto. Its got 80k on it (I got it with 53k in August of 2002) and I get an almost constant whirring noise from the front. I did a search on here and none of the problems sound like the one I have. It makes the noise when Im not driving and it increases when I drive. The only time I dont hear it is when I gun it. But that may be because I hear the engine roaring and its drowned out.
I dont know what it may be (I think it might be the alternator cause I had a 94 Grand Am and it made the same sound before it went) but Im not too sure.
I also have another noise. Mostly when its cold or Ive been driving a lot (whether my AC/Heat are on or not) I get a very high pitched noise. I can pop it into Neutral and it fades away but slowly returns. If I hear it while driving I can gun the engine a little and it goes away but eventually returns. Its really annoying.
I noticed it a lot in the winter and just figured it was cause it was cold out. But now its happening in the summer and its aggrivating me.
My engine had over heated a couple months ago and I had to replace either the radiator or the Heater Core (I cant remember which at this time) and Ive had no real problems with the car over heating or running warmer than normal when I have the AC running full blast.
Does anyone have any idea what it could be? Im gonna bring it to my mechanic next week but I dont wanna lose it for a long time. I just was hoping to be able to figure out whats wrong before I drop it off so that he can check it out instead of trying a bunch of different things.
Thanks...
