make sure all the connections on the computer are thoroughly cleaned!

you'd be best to take the computer out and clean them and when you think they're clean....clean them again.

Also - make sure the right code was burned into the chip.

leave it in for a week, then drive up to Ford and show them the Contour with 600k miles and ask for a new Ford.

I had some huge issues with my superchip. Here's how I fixed the problems. First, remove the entire ECU from the car (there is a 10mm nut on the wiring harness that's right against the firewall under the hood.) Loosen the nut, and the ECU will slide out from underneath the glove box. Take the metal cover off by removing the screws from the corners of the unit. Then, take one of those reall sharp pen knifes(or razor, etc.) and begin scraping both sides of the contacts. Once your confident that you got all of the big stuff off of them , take some rubbing alcohol and the pads provided with the superchip and scrub the contacts until they begin turning a copper color. Clean w/ some more rubbing alcohol then dry with a clean paper towel. Reassemble, put the superchip in (with some electrical tape to keep it from moving around) and you should be set. These direction came from Warren at KKM, so they are from an expert. Good luck, hopes this solves your problems.

I had to solder two points together inside my ECU to get my car to start with a chip. If you think this might be your problem, go to pdqperformance.com and click on the picture of the ecu that looks like yours. If you don't want to soldier it yourself I think PDQperformance will soldier them for free less shipping if you send it to them.

Hope that helps

(My cougar ecu was the second from the last picture which should be the same as yours)

Did you have to give superchips your ecu code when you ordered the chip? If your computer has been reflashed and you gave them the original code, that may cause some problems.

I had a similar problem. I purchased a chip that I thought was for my ECU, later to find a small faded sticker on my front crossmember stating a re-flash. It back-fired so bad trying to start, my starter housing cracked dropping fragments into the flywheel locking up the engine. I even tried to push start it. That was a lot of fun locking up the fronts with a buddy helping me push it in the middle of the night.

Anyway, I contacted Superchips directly and they were a big help. They reflashed it for no additional cost other then shipping.

I recommend looking around your engine compartment and if all else fails, you could take it to Ford to reflash to a know code and have your superchip reflashed accordingly.
