I am trying to install a Ford cruise control kit (F5RZ-9A818_B)that I got from e-bay for $35 and I've hit a few snags.
First of all, instuctions say that it's applicable for 1995-on, but the box was packed in April 95, so will it work on a 98?
2nd, how do you connect speed sensor wire? The instructions say that you should connect the WHITE/VIOLET wire from the speed control harness to a matching WHITE/VIOLET wire on the big wire connector on the strut tower next to the air cleaner with a butt splice that came with the kit. However, for that to work I have cut the wire on the harness, or is it ok to use a crimp lock?, or am I looking at the wrong wire? Instructions say that it shoud be at position 13 on the connector, but I can't really tell.

I'm sure there will be other problems, but I'm taking it one step at a time. (Don't look foreward to taking the airbag apart). Any help with this will be greatly appreciated.

Just installed the F5RZ-9A818-A Kit.
Remove that Huge plug from its mount and disconect the two parts.
Put on your glasses and look at the engine side of the connector. There are Microscopic numbers on the plug.
Go to #13 slot, ignore the colour of the wire. Take a deep breath and CUT IT OFF and Butt connect as per directions. Ya... I know....I finally decided they would have given me a T-connector - IF I was suppose to use it.
Continue to follow the directions.
My Mystique has a mechanical speedo, so I had a bit of a concern. The end result is.....just GRAND. Factory fit, factory operation...I just love it.
Beats ALL the aftermarket kits I've installed

I cut and butt-connected the #13 wire (which was white/blue) and...the speedo stopped working! I also tried to T-connect two different white/violet wires with no results. After installing everything according to the instructions, all I have to show for it is some useless buttons on the steering wheel.
I'm guessing that this kit is just not compatible with my 98. At least I did'nt spend too much money on this. Now I have to drive to Florida next week without cruise.

So the Wh/Vt wire coming from the new C/C harness goes into the large plug, entering from the engine side....?

Is that how the wire's suppose to go? Maybe that's what I did wrong. I'll give it another shot this evening.

I spent a few years in the Alarm industry and discovered if I went over it as if I was doing an inspection on someone elses work....
The first time I did the CC it took me 7 hours , 3 hours staring at the booklet......

The wire that was cut off at the plug - just hangs there....
...tape it off.

Cutting the #13 wire is'nt working for me since it kills the speedo. I'm thinking that this kit only works on early Contiques with mechanical speedos since it was made in April 95, which I believe was before they started using the electronic speedos.

Did you try to tap the wire into it, I dunno if I follow correctly, but it sounds if you leave that wire connected and just tap it it should work.

I tapped the wire first with no effect. Then I cut the wire, which made things worse (dead speedo).I have since reconnected the wire & the speedo is working again, although the calibration may be off. As a last ditch effort, I'm gonna try the diagnostic routine in my Ford service manual CD.
